During the post-World War II “de-colonialization” period, British Honduras faced two obstacles to independence: British reluctance until the early 1960s to allow for citizens to govern themselves, and Guatemala’s complete intransigence over its long standing claim to everyone in your territory (Guatemala had repeatedly threatened to make usage of force to adopt the over British Honduras).
